The Desserts of New York/New York Desserts
by Yasmin Newman
Who doesn’t dream of traveling to New York and spending months eating your way through the best restaurants, cafes, pastry shops and bakeries? Personally, I could hardly imagine anything better. Yasmin Newman, a food/travel author and photographer from Australia, has done just that. You can admire the results in her second cookbook, The Desserts of New York.
Together with her husband Steve and her daughter Inés (a second child is on the way ...) Yasmin moves to the American East Coast metropolis for three months. Carefully prepared, with lists, routes and lots of good tips from family and friends, she sets off. Right at the beginning Yasmin gives great travel tips for everyone who wants to follow her on her dessert journey.
"New York is changing from block to block, sometimes extreme, and each quarter has its own identity - a great kaleidoscope. Desserts often reflect the character of the neighborhood.”
Basically, the book is structured according to the different kinds of desserts. It starts with the most popular desserts from America - donuts and cookies. At the end of each chapter you will find a list of shops, bakeries and pastry shops, including recommendations and addresses. In between, you can find great, atmospheric photos of New York, its residents and the various restaurants that Yasmin and her family have tested.
I've tried the Donuts with Three Glazes and the Luxury Oreos. The result was very convincing - quickly finished and, above all, even faster eaten!
Doughnuts mit dreierlei Glasur
Luxus Oreos
My conclusion: I can only warn everyone - this book causes a strong craving for New York! But luckily you can cook or bake the many great recipes and get a little bit of that atmosphere at home.
The book The Desserts of New York by Yasmin Newman has been published by Gräfe und Unzer Verlag.
